A Cumberland County man has lost over a thousand dollars in an online love scam. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the 62-year-old man said he had been sending money to a female he met on E-Harmony who supposedly lives in Brookyln, New York. The online girlfriend said she needed the money to move to Tennessee to be with him. The victim said since February he had sent the woman $1,400 via Bitcoin using a mobile application. The victim said he has never spoken to this female over the phone and he has only received text messages and pictures of the supposed female. The victim’s stepmother stated she only found out about this because they got a letter in the mail stating there was insufficient funds in the bank account. The victim was advised to stop sending money to this female unless he knows for sure who it is, and they have an actual relationship.
