Students from South Cumberland Elementary School made a strong impression last week at the Eastern Region 4-H Family & Consumer Sciences Skill-A-Thon, held in McMinn County.
Competing alongside students from six other Tennessee counties, South Cumberland’s 4-H participants tackled hands-on challenges in cooking and food safety, sewing, interior design, and real-world problem-solving. Their efforts were supported through practice sessions led by Cumberland County 4-H Agent Taunee Whittenbarger and CTE teacher Julie Wyatt.
Among the highlights:

Junior Team A—Myla B., Sadie P., and Reagan R.—took 1st place in their division.

All five junior team members, including Lucy H. and Wyatt L., earned recognition as High Individuals.

In the Junior High division, Avery W. placed 8th overall among individuals, while her team—alongside Lydia B. and Kinsley W.—finished 7th.

Additional teams placed 6th and 11th, showcasing the depth of talent across the board.
After the event, students celebrated their hard work with a well-earned group lunch. Cumberland County 4-H commended the students for their preparation, teamwork, and enthusiasm.
