The State of Tennessee now has it’s first professional sports trophy in it’s history thanks to Nashville SC. The professional soccer team from the state capital took down Austin FC 2-1 in the U.S. Open Cup Final Wednesday night in Austin, Texas.

Hany Mukhtar scored for Nashville in the 17th minute then it was Sam Surridge who put his name in Tennessee history giving Nashville SC the game winning goal in the 60th minute. Nashville SC hopes to collect another trophy at the end of the year as they try to win the MLS Cup. They sit 6th in the Eastern Conference standings currently 2 points ahead of the Wild Card positions.

The State of Tennessee has came close to winning a professional sports trophy in the past. The Tennessee Titans lost to the St. Louis Rams 23-16 in Super Bowl XXXIV. The Nashville Predators fell 4 games to 2 to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals. The Memphis Grizzlies have never been to the NBA Finals, however they came close in 2012-13 when they reached the Western Conference Finals but were swept by the San Antonio Spurs.

Congratulations to Nashville SC!
