Sparta Mayor Jerry Lowery has announced that Tennessee has qualified for a fully funded federal grant to build the new Upper Cumberland State Veterans Cemetery in White County.
Mayor Lowery said the cemetery will provide no-cost burial services for eligible veterans, their spouses, and dependents—allowing families to honor their loved ones close to home and with the dignity they deserve. The state has already purchased more than 127 acres on Country Club Road for the site.
Mayor Lowery added that the project has been years in the making thanks to the hard work of the Upper Cumberland Veterans Cemetery Association, and it represents a lasting commitment to those who served our nation.
It will become the sixth state-run Veterans cemetery in Tennessee.
