This past Saturday at Middle Tennessee State University the 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, and DI High School Girls Basketball State Championships were held.
There were three area schools competing for a State Championship with the York Institute Dragonettes in the 2A, the White County Warriorettes in the 3A, and the Cookeville Lady Cavaliers in the 4A.
Unfortunately, no golden trophies will be coming back to the upper Cumberland.
York dropped a heartbreaker to the Huntingdon Fillies 43-41, Sparta was defeated by the Dyersburg Lady Trojans 54-45, and the Lady Cavs were stunned by Bearettes of Sevier County 61-43.
The boys championships will be held next week where three upper Cumberland teams will fight for a title with Pickett County and Jackson County in the 1A bracket and Upperman in the 3A bracket.
