Press Release:
Roane State has two remaining orientations on the calendar this summer for incoming freshmen – one set for July 9 and another on August 8, shortly before the start of fall classes.
Orientation, also known as the New Student Experience, will be held on the college’s flagship Roane County Campus in Harriman. Students will gather in the O’Brien Theatre before circulating through campus for rundowns of what they can expect as they begin their journey toward a college degree.
“Roane State Success Coaches are here to help with everything during a student’s first year, but the New Student Experience is an important part of starting the semester strong,” said Jennifer Fugate, Roane State’s coordinator of student engagement. “We encourage every new student to attend so they can be better prepared. The information provided will answer questions they may not even know to ask.”
New Student Experience is structured so that important topics are introduced in an easy to understand way. Sessions will cover using RaiderNet, Roane State’s online dashboard, and Momentum, the college’s learning management system where students access class information and complete online coursework.
Students will also receive tips on how to take advantage of services and resources like the Learning Centers, campus libraries, testing centers, financial aid, counseling, and more.
The college already welcomed students for the first New Student Experience on June 23. This summer’s remaining sessions are:
Thursday, July 9, 9am – 1pm ET
Saturday, August 8, 9am – 1pm ET
Check-in for both events will begin at 8:30am ET in the O’Brien Theatre. Pre-registration for New Student Experience can be completed online.
Please note that class registration is not available during the orientation sessions – students must meet with their success coach or advisor to lock in their courses. Dual enrolled high school students will attend a separate Dual Enrollment Orientation.
