WCUD Warns Customers Of Trace Amounts Of Asbestos In Water

Dec 20, 2022 | 4:46 PM

West Cumberland Utility District recently sent a notice to water customers warning that traces of asbestos were found in the company’s lateral lines. The contaminate was not found in the main trunk lines.  WCUD says this is not an emergency and customers do not need to boil water or take other corrective actions.  The company notes that long-term exposure to asbestos in excess of the maxiumum contaminate level can increase the risk of benign intestinal polyps. If you have specific health concerns, WCUD says you should consult your doctor.  The company plans to replace the lines where the asbestos was detected within the next two years.
