The 6th ranked Tennessee Volunteers faced off with the 7th ranked Clemson Tigers in the Capitol One Orange Bowl. Coming into this year’s Orange Bowl the Vols were 1-3 in this bowl game with their last win in the Orange Bowl in 1939 against Oklahoma. After a 46 yard touchdown pass from Joe Milton III to Ramel Keyton in the middle of the 4th quarter the Vols were able to cruise to a 31-14 victory over the Clemson Tigers and become the 2022 Orange Bowl Champions!
Joe Milton III threw 19 for 28 for 251 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jaylen Wright rushed for 89 yards and Jabari Small rushed for 38 yards and had 1 touchdown. Squirrel White, Ramel Keyton, and Bru McCoy all had 1 touchdown a piece. The Orange Bowl MVP was given to QB Joe Milton III.
The Volunteers ended a very successful and historic 2022 season with the Orange Bowl win. Tennessee had 11 wins and two losses and finished ranked #6 in the nation according to the College Football Playoff. The Vols earned wins against Ball State, Pitt, Akron, Florida, LSU, Alabama, UT-Martin, Kentucky, Missouri, Vanderbilt, and Clemson. UT’s only losses were two Georgia and South Carolina.
The Vols will open the 2023-24 season against the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday September 2, 2023 in Nashville.
