A former Volunteer Energy Cooperative (VEC) accountant has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for stealing almost $1 million while on the job.   Jason Kittle, age 46, of Athens, must also pay VEC back.  Kittle worked at VEC’s headquarters in Decatur, TN from June 2011 to December 2017. He reportedly used a refund scheme to transfer money into his personal checking account.  He also allegedly made payments on his and his wife’s credit cards. VEC fired him in 2017 when the company learned of the theft and reported the theft to police.  WTVC reports Kittle was still in the Meigs County Jail on Friday.  He will soon be transferred to state prison.
