A semi-truck driver was injured Friday afternoon after crashing on I-40 east near the 335 mile marker in Cumberland County.  It happened around 1pm as severe storms blew through the area, bringing heavy rain and severe cross winds.  According to the THP, 66-year-old Norman Powers, of Tennessee, was driving a 2020 International Tractor when he lost control in a curve.  The tractor-trailer left the roadway on the right side and struck a guard rail end. The truck continued east approximately 35 yards, continually destroying the guard rail, and striking a standing sign, until it took a sharp right turn, traveled approximately 50 feet down a steep embankment, and struck a standing tree where it came to a final rest.  Mr. Powers was trapped inside but extricated by the rescue squad and EMS personnel. The THP did not disclose the extent of his injuries. Both truck and trailer sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.  According to TDOT Smartway, traffic was backed up in the area for several hours.
