In a special called session of the Cumberland County Board of Education on Monday night, board members voted to offer the position of Director of Schools to Dr. Ina Maxwell. The board first polled members in a paper ballot with Maxwell receiving 7 votes; BOE member Robert Safdie cast his ballot for Dan Schlafer while Shirley Parris voted for Darrell Threet. A motion was made to offer the position to Dr. Maxwell with all board members voting to approve. Dr. Maxwell has been a teacher in the Cumberland County School system and currently serves as its Federal Programs Director. She received her Master’s and PhD from Tennessee Technological University. The board will meet May 18th at 5 p.m. to work on contracts.
