One person was injured after a Putnam County ambulance transporting a patient was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on I-40 Tuesday morning in Smith County. It happened around 10:15am. According to the THP, a truck driver lost power on I-40 East, just west of the Gordonsville-Carthage exit. The driver was not able to pull the traller out of the lane of traffic, causing other vehicles to swerve to miss it. The ambulance had to apply brakes suddenly to avoid a vehicle that was swerving to miss the trailer. That’s when the ambulance was struck in the rear by a Lexus and a Honda Accord. The patient in the ambulance, Charles Leverett, 73, sustained a reported minor arm injury and taken to the hospital in Cookeville. No one else was hurt.
