On Monday March 6, 2023, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sergeant Adrienne McCurry presented a two-count indictment to the Putnam County Grand Jury charging Cody Spear with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury. The indictment is a result of the events on January 27, 2023, where Cody Spear shot Derrick Borchardt in the face after the two had been in an argument at a residence on E. Whitehall Road in Cookeville, TN.
On March 7, 2023, Sergeant Josh Reams arrested and charged Spear with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault Causing Bodily Injury. Spear has a bond set at $200,000 and a court date set for March 20, 2023.
