The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office took to social media and shared a warning about a terrifying scam. Scammers are now using Artificial Intelligence programs to mimic the voices of loved ones in hopes of getting victims to send them money. If you get such a call, the Sheriff’s Department urges you to call the person who supposedly called you to verify the story. If you can, get in contact with another family member or friend. Scammers normally want you to send money that is untraceable, making it difficult or impossible to get your money back. If you spot a scam, report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
