#6 Lady Vols Sweep #16 Kentucky in Weekend Series

It was a big weekend for Tennessee Softball as the 6th ranked Lady Vols went north for a weekend series against the 16th ranked Kentucky Wildcats. Lady Vols enjoyed a sweep over the wildcats that included two run-ruled games.

#6 Tennessee emerged victorious Friday night at John Cropp Stadium, winning 2-1 over #16 Kentucky in extra innings. Graduate pitcher Ashley Rogers got the start and went the distance for UT, striking out 11 over eight frames, walking three and allowing just three hits. With the win, the righty is now 13-1 on the year.

Sophomore McKenna Gibson clubbed a three-run home run and drove in another to power the sixth-ranked Lady Vols to a 10-2 run-rule win at No. 16 Kentucky Saturday afternoon at John Cropp Stadium. Tennessee used a trio of pitchers with freshman Karlyn Pickens getting the start and the win. She tossed 4.1 innings with four strikeouts, four walks and one run allowed on three hits. Sophomore Nicola Simpson went 1.2 innings in relief, while freshman Charli Orsini entered the game but did not record an out – the righty allowed one run on one hit.

Sophomore McKenna Gibson crushed a pair of three-run home runs Sunday at John Cropp Stadium as the sixth-ranked Lady Vols run-ruled #16 Kentucky, 15-1, to sweep the three-game series. The senior righty Payton Gottshall tossed a one-hit complete game with one walk and seven strikeouts. The win moves her to 9-0 on the year.

Tennessee returns home Tuesday to play host to Kennesaw State starting at 4 p.m. The game can be streamed on SECN+ through Watch ESPN.
