A Crossville Police officer is recovering after he accidentally shot himself on Wednesday. According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the Linary area shortly before 5 p.m. There they found Lt. JC Hancock suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Lt. Hancock, who was off-duty at his home, accidentally shot himself with a 45 caliber Kimber 1911 while he was putting it in his backpack. Lt. Hancock was airlifted to Erlanger, where he was treated and released.
