One worker was killed and two others injured Saturday after a vehicle struck them on a walkway just outside of the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga. It happened around 5:30am. WTVC reports that the driver of the vehicle, Jason Wayne Thorton, told police he thinks he fell asleep behind the wheel. Thornton, who is also a Volkswagen employee, told police was driving around the trailers and going to the paint shop were he works. The next thing Thorton said he remembers is “objects hitting the windshield”. Witnesses told officers they saw a black Sedan traveling at a high rate of speed right before it struck three employees. According to WTVC Thornton faces charges of vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and speeding. One worker died at the scene and a second suffered life-threatening injuries. The third worker sustained less severe injuries. Authorities have not identified the victims.
