The Tennessee Department of Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division is hoping to reunite residents across the state with nearly $1-billion in unclaimed money, WRCB reports. In Tennessee, unclaimed property is intangible assets, such as utility refunds, uncashed paychecks, credit balances for overpayments, rental deposit refunds, gift certificates, securities, bank accounts, etc. Officials say the division returned almost $33-million to more than 48,000 people last year. One of those people ended up with $13,466.04, the largest amount claimed by a person at these events. If anyone calls you or writes you regarding Unclaimed Property do not give out any personal information. It could be a scam. The easiest way to find out if you have missing money is through ClaimItTN.gov. You can also learn more about unclaimed property by visiting the Tennessee Department of Treasury’s website.
