The 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 was ran on Sunday where the Greatest Spectacle in Racing was ran as tradition on Memorial Day weekend. The race saw 33 drivers from around the world do battle for 500 miles to see who would etch their name in history on the Borg-Warner Trophy. After a drama filled final laps a native of Tennessee won the Indianapolis 500.
Josef Newgarden from Nashville Tennessee made a pass on Sweden’s Marcus Ericsson on the last lap to win the famed race. Josef is a 2 Time IndyCar Series Champion and owns 27 career wins in IndyCar and drives for the historic Team Penske. Newgarden gave Team Penske their 19th Indianapolis 500 win making Penske the winningest owner of the Indy 500.
Newgarden told reporters, “I was emotional, the whole last 10 laps because we were I knew we were in a position to fight for this win at the end. And I knew it wasn’t gonna be easy. … But I can tell you, we’re gonna enjoy it tonight. It’s gonna be amazing when we get to celebrate.
Newgarden, celebrated by sprinting from his car, cimbing through the fence by the flag stand and running up the stairs to celebrate with fans sitting in the area.
