Jun 1, 2023 | 11:35 AM

Gift card scams usually target the elderly but a 24-year-old Crossville woman is proof such scams can happen to anyone.   The victim told Police she was working from home for the Spherion Company.  She said she spoke to someone through the “Telegram” app who told her to purchase gift cards and send them the numbers on the back once she was sent almost $15,000 in three checks into her bank account.  The victim went to Walmart and bought $4,500 worth of gift cards.  The bank verified the checks were fraudulent.  It’s important to remember that anytime anyone wants payment in gift cards it is most likely a scam.
