Tennessee is looking into bringing passenger rail trains back to the state for the first time since the 1970’s. The state has submitted an identification application to the Federal Rail Administration (FRA) for service from Memphis east to Nashville, on to Chattanooga, and to Atlanta. Amtrak CEO Stephen J. Gardner expressed interest in the proposed line. State lawmakers are now waiting on the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR) to submit a report on passenger rail. That report is due next month.
