The National Weather Service reports at least four tornadoes hit East Tennessee on Sunday, June 11, 2023.
Around 4pm Central Time (CT) an EF-1 tornado struck Fentress County in the areas of Jamestown and Allardt. It had 110mph winds, was 300 yards wide and a path of 10.8 miles.
An EF-1 tornado touched down in Scott County in the Helenwood area at 6:10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) Sunday, packing 95mph winds and was 200 yards wide.
Around 5:15pm CT an EF-1 tornado with 95 MPH winds hit Crossville just west of Highway 70 North. It was 50 yards wide and traveled 1.7 miles, demolishing one house and damaging several other structures. There were no reports of injuries but a dog at one home was killed.
Another twister touched down in Fentress County in the Grimsely and Clarkrange areas around 7:40 p.m. CT with 90mph winds, was 30 yards wide and stayed on the ground for 1.8 miles.
The Crossville/Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency urges everyone to be mindful of weather conditions all year long and to have multiple ways to receive notification of severe weather watches and warnings.
