Cumberland County’s May Unemployment Rate 3.9%, Up 0.8% From April

Cumberland County’s May unemployment rate rose to 3.9 percent, up 0.8 percent from April.  The May jobless rate is also 0.1 percent higher than the same time last year.

White County’s unemployment rate for May rose 0.7 percent to 3.5 percent.  That’s also 0.2 percent higher than the May 2022 rate.

Warren County’s May jobless rate of 3.8 percent was 0.8 percent higher than April but down 0.1 percent for May 2022.

Ninety-three of Tennessee’s 95 counties recorded unemployment rates below 5% in May. Bledsoe and Scott counties had Tennessee’s highest unemployment numbers, each with rates of 5.3%.

Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady in May at 3.3%. That’s just 0.1 of a percentage point higher than the May 2022 rate of 3.2%, which is the Tennessee’s all-time lowest jobless number.

Seasonally adjusted unemployment increased nationally in May to 3.7%, up 0.3 of a percentage point from the previous month’s rate. In the year-to-year comparison, the United States unemployment rate is up 0.1 of a percentage point from the May 2022 statistic.
