The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released new details about a Marion County grandmother who drowned on June 5, 2023 after saving her 10-year-old grandson’s life. According to the THP report, 64-year-old Frieda Thurman fell asleep at the wheel before her vehicle plunged into the Sequatchie River. The grandmother woke up and managed to get herself and the child out of the car. Thurman was able to get her grandson to the riverbank but was not able to get herself to shore. Crews recovered her body downstream.
