Cumberland County Fair Association Press Release:

CUMBERLAND COUNTY FAIR ASSOCIATION CANCELS 2020 FAIR DUE TO COVID-19 CONCERNS

Since the closing of last year’s fair, the CCFA Board of Directors has been working hard and preparing for the 2020 Fair. During the past few months, the world has changed; and everything has become more complex and difficult in regard to social distancing and crowd management.

The Cumberland County Fair involves a large network of people to bring it to our community: vendors, entertainers, competitors, sponsors, amusement operators, volunteers, extension staff, exhibitors, and hundreds who always contribute in some way to make our fair successful. Many of those people have been directly impacted by COVID-19, either financially, emotionally, or otherwise. We, as the Cumberland County Fair Association Board of Directors, understand exactly what they are going through because we are going through the same thing.

We will face those challenges together because, in our mind, the most important thing is our community’s health. “We do not know what things will be like at fair time; however, we have to make decisions based on what we know now,” said Garry Hood, President of the Cumberland County Fair Association.

Based on scientific information available, consultation with the Department of Agriculture and Tennessee Association of Fairs, the CCFA Board of Directors has decided to cancel this year’s fair, originally scheduled for August 24-29, 2020, for the safety and concern of the Cumberland county community. By making this difficult decision we guarantee that the fair’s future will remain positive and bright.

“This is the right thing to do. We ask for the community’s understanding and support of our decision. We will be back in 2021 with a bigger and better Cumberland County Fair,” Hood concluded.
