The University of Tennessee has been slapped with an $8 million fine by the NCAA for recruiting violations that happened while Jeremy Pruitt was head football coach. It’s the largest fine in NCAA history.  Pruitt and nine others were fired for cause in January 2021 after the University began an internal investigation and discovered serious NCAA rules violations. According to WVLT, NCAA officials called Tennessee’s misconduct one of the most serious instances of infractions in the history of the association. The NCAA put UT on five years probation, a loss of 28 football scholarships, and several other severe penalties.  WLVT also reports that UT is not allowed to purchase advertising for any postseason broadcasts they play in. The NCAA did credit Tennessee for self-reporting and cooperating with the investigation. The good news for fans is that UT will be allowed to play for championships and in bowls.
