UPDATE! Stabbing/Carjacking Suspect Identified, Leads East TN Police On 3-County Chase

A stabbing and carjacking suspect is in custody after allegedly stealing a woman’s car, and later a garbage truck and leading police on a three-county chase in East Tennessee Monday morning (8/7/2023).  WVLT reports it all began when the suspect, Shawn White, 43, of Clinton, stabbed a woman in the Fountain City area and stole her car. White crashed the woman’s car, fled and flagged down a garbage truck.  He reportedly held the driver at knifepoint and forced him to drive towards Chapman Highway.  White also stabbed the truck driver who managed to jump out of the cab of the vehicle as it was moving.   Police chased the vehicle through three counties; Knox, Blount and Sevier.  The chase came to an end in Sevier County after police deployed spike strips and the garbage truck crashed on Dolly Parton Parkway near the Sevier County High School.  The suspect was injured in the crash and taken to UT Medical Center.   Both the woman and the garbage truck driver are believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
