Thousands were left without power for several hours in Middle and East Tennessee Monday after strong storms moved through the area. The lights went out in Cumberland County around lunchtime. Emergency agencies, VEC, TDOT, and County and City Road Departments worked into the night to clear roadways from downed trees and power lines. Around 3pm Monday, VEC reported 18,000 customers without electricity in 13 counties. By 6pm crews had reduced the number of outages to a little over 10,000. The majority of remaining outages Monday night were in Cumberland, Meigs, Rhea, McMinn, and Fentress counties. VEC said most outages were the results of high winds and lightning.
