Monday’s storms toppled trees and power lines across Middle and East Tennessee and produced record high winds. According to the National Weather Service, Monday’s peak wind gust of 64 mph recorded around 12:30pm at the Crossville Memorial Airport is the highest wind gust ever recorded at the airport. The previous record of 63 mph was set on March 29, 2020.
The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-2 tornado touched down in West Knox County on Monday. It packed wind gusts of 130mph, was 200 yards wide and was on the ground for 3.8 miles. No injuries were reported.
Rhea County schools will be closed Wednesday, August 9, 2023 as storm clean-up continues.
