Cumberland County Commissioners met in special session on Monday to approve the budget and tax rate for the fiscal year 2023-24. The property tax rate will remain unchanged at $1.1350. In total, the budget comes in at $157.2 million with almost 63 percent of the that going to the Board of Education. The budget includes a 6 percent salary increase for county employees as well as an increase in the starting wage for part time employees. Commissioners also approved the appropriation of $2 million as a one-time contribution to the county highway department for assisting in road repairs.
