Multi-Agency Crews Rescue Injured Hiker From Glade Creek Area Labor Day Weekend

Sep 4, 2023 | 5:29 PM

A multi-county effort lead to the rescue of an injured hiker in White County over Labor Day weekend.  According to a post on the White County Firefighters Association’s Facebook page, around 4:30 Saturday afternoon (9/2/2023), the White County 911 center dispatched the Bon De Croft Volunteer Fire Department, Sparta Rescue Squad, and White County EMS to the Glade Creek area for an injured hiker. Initially crews had a difficult time locating the hiker in the extremely rugged terrain. As a result fire and rescue members from across the Upper Cumberland were requested for manpower and technical rescue resources. Departments that responded were from Bon De Croft Fire, White County Rescue, Crossville Fire & Rescue, Cumberland County Fire, Cumberland County Rescue Squad, Overton County Rescue Squad, White County EMS, Mt. Gilead Volunteer Fire Department, White County Office of Emergency Management, White County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson, and the White County Sheriff’s Office with a total of 61 personnel.  The patient was located and not critically injured. First responders worked through the night to safely extricate the victim up a bluff.  By 2:30 Sunday morning, the victim was safely extricated and in stable condition.  By 4:30 Sunday morning all rescue members were back at the command post.

The White County Firefighters Association asks everyone to support your local volunteer fire and rescue departments when they are doing fundraisers. Without that critical funding these missions are much more difficult to accomplish.
