Crossville Police were dispatched to Hayes Drive Monday morning (9/25/2023) after 25-year-old Benjamin Journal Jackson allegedly tried to set a house on fire with people inside. A male occupant of the home told Police that Benjamin Jackson had been banging on his window with a stick. The victim said he saw Jackson gathering leaves against the house and lighting them on fire. The victim said Jackson would light the leaves on fire then sit down in his wheelchair. When the leaves would go out, Jackson would reportedly get out of the wheelchair, walk back over, and re-light them. Upon arrival Police observed heavy smoke and a pile of smoldering leaves against the house. At the time the fire was started, a man and woman were inside the home. The Crossville Fire Department put the leaves out before they erupted. Benjamin Jackson was found sitting in a wheelchair behind Pine Eden Church. He was placed under arrest and transported to intake for booking.
