Crossville police arrested a homeless man after he allegedly made threats with a machete. Officers were called the Tractor Supply Company around noon on Saturday to investigate reports of a shirtless man holding a machete and arguing with customers outside. When police arrived, the suspect had left the area and was found in the parking lot of AutoZone where he brandished the machete and told officers, “Come on and shoot me!” The suspect continued to threaten officers, at one point advancing in the direction of Lt. Tony Davis before escaping to a wooded area off Sparta Drive. Cumberland County Sheriff Deputy Chance Dixon deployed a taser when he encountered the suspect in the woods behind Dunham’s, but the man ripped the taser prongs from his body and continued to run. He was apprehended by city police officers in the area behind Little Caesars. 32 year-old Joshua Dewayne Smith was charged with 3 counts of aggravated assault, evading arrest, public intoxication and unlawful possession of a weapon.
