On June 27, 2020, at around 7:07 PM, a Cumberland County Deputy was shot while responding to a suspicious person call at the 8000 block area of Chestnut Hill Road. The deputy exchanged gunfire with an unnamed suspect and was wounded in the upper right side and was airlifted to U.T. Medical Center. The suspect was barricaded in their vehicle and Cumberland County Sheriff’s, Crossville Police S.W.A.T. Team, and Crisis Negotiators were deployed. The Tennessee Highway Patrol then closed down Chestnut Hill to all traffic. Negotiators made numerous attempts to make contact with the suspect and with no success S.W.A.T. deployed chemical weapons. When S.W.A.T approached the vehicle the suspect was found dead. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is on-scene conducting a investigation. The name of the suspect is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Additional releases will be done as information is forthcoming.
