In recognition of International Charity Fraud Awareness Week through December 1, Secretary of State Tre Hargett is reminding Tennesseans of available resources from his office to help avoid scams when donating.
If a nonprofit that you do not know asks you for a contribution, take your time and ask questions. Resist pressure to give on the spot. If you are asked for a donation via text or email, verify the request is directly from the charity or nonprofit.
