Beginning January 1, 2024 the “Eddie Conrad Act,” will increase the number of points to be charged to a person’s driving record in Tennessee for violations of driving while using a wireless telecommunications device. The law applies texting, holding, reading or reaching for an electronic device like a cell phone while driving, or using such a device to record a video while driving. Those under the age of 18 will receive seven points for a second or subsequent offense, which could result in their license being suspended for six to 12 months. Adults face a Class C misdemeanor which could lead to up to 30 days in jail, fines of $50 or less, or both.
