Three paragliders were charged after one of them allegedly parachuted into the cooling tower at the old Hartsville nuclear power plant.  According to a post on the Trousdale County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page, on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a complaint of paragliders near TVA and prison property. TVA Police and Prison personnel were notified. Later, Deputies witnessed the gliders return and one person parachuted into the cooling tower. Deputies and TVA Police , assisted by TVA personnel, detained three members of “Extreme Athletes”, a group of professionally trained athletes that video and post their activities. The three individuals were charged for trespass and await a General Sessions Court date. Others were warned to not trespass on TVA property.  In a statement, TVA said the plant, which shut down in the 1970’s, is an active TVA site with staff and security measures in place. TVA said it takes trespassing very seriously and violators are subject to prosecution under state and federal laws.
