VEC Warns of Phone Scam

Mar 9, 2024 | 6:00 PM

Volunteer Energy Cooperative is warning customers about a phone scam. VEC says it recently received a high volume of phone scam reports in which the scam caller is aggressive and threatens to disconnect electricity if the member does not give payment information or does not pay through gift cards.

VEC says this is a fraudulent call, and if you receive it, hang up and contact your local service center to verify the status of your account. The fraudulent number the scammer wants members to call is 844-205-8717.

Remember, VEC will never call threatening disconnect or demanding an immediate payment and no legitimate business will ever demand payment through gift cards and other hard-to-trace forms of reimbursement.
