A 68-year-old Roane County man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for assaulting his wife and his sister.

According to a press release issued by 9th Judicial District, District Attorney General Russell Johnson, Roger Mills, of Kingston, was charged with aggravated assault in August 2020 after he reportedly strangled his wife Tracey Mills. He also would not let her leave their house and beat her with a hammer on her knees and ankles.

After making bond he later attacked his sister, Sherry Mills, trying to strangle her as well on March 9, 2022 and was charged aggravated assault.

Mills pleaded to both aggravated assault charges.

At a sentencing hearing last week, Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Edwards argued for five years on both cases involving the wife and sister, asking the Court to impose the full five years and to run the sentences consecutively. Roane County Criminal Court Judge Jeff Wicks agreed and ran the two sentences one after the other for an effective prison sentence of ten years.

Mills has been in jail since attacking his sister in March 2022 and will now serve the remainder of his sentence in prison.
