Center Hill Dam to change hydropower ramp up rates

Jun 20, 2024 | 3:23 PM

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has announced important changes to the hydropower ramp up rates at Center Hill Dam. These updates go into effect June 30th.

The ramp up rate refers to the gradual increase in the number of turbines brought online. The more hydropower turbines running, the more power generated, and the more water being released downstream. This can create hazardous river conditions downstream for waders and paddlers.

The updated schedules can be found online by searching Nashville District Water Management. This information is also available on the free TVA Lake Info App. Visitors to Center Hill should check the generation schedule for the date of their planned outing. Remember, water release schedules often change without notice due to unanticipated changes in weather conditions and power system requirements. Always use caution near dams.

Visitors on all waterways are encouraged to have a plan in place to remain safe. Wear an approved life jacket when boating or fishing, swim in safe or designated areas only, and be mindful that conditions could change quickly.
