Beginning July 1, 2024 a new law requires GPS monitoring for certain domestic violence offenders in Tennessee. The offender will have to pay for the GPS device and wear it until a court deems they are no longer a threat to the victim or public safety. Victims will be provided with a device that will notify them when the offender is close by.
Also starting July 1, 2024 a new law hopes to keep violent offenders in jail. It requires judges to give first consideration to community safety when determining conditions of pretrial release or bail and not just their ability to pay for a bond.
