Parental Accountability Act Takes Effect July 1, 2024 in Tennessee

Jun 30, 2024 | 12:17 PM

Tennessee lawmakers passed a bill in the 2024 session to establish parental accountability for delinquent children.  Beginning July 1, 2024, The Parental Accountability Act gives judges the discretion to fine parents or guardians, instead of the child, for their child’s delinquent actions after the first offense. If the parent is unable to pay the fine, community service is an alternative option. This bill is designed to incentivize parents to pay closer attention to their children.
