A Putnam County mother and son have been arrested after her other son was fatally shot in the eye over the weekend.

According to a press release from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, July 6, 2024, “Deputies responded to a residence on Glade Creek Road in reference to a shooting accident. Amanda Thompson reported that a male subject named Josh arrived at the residence to shoot targets with her son Billy Thompson which resulted in Billy getting shot in the eye before Josh left the scene. It was later determined by Deputies that Ms. Thompson gave a false report and that Tony Curtis Thompson Jr., Ms. Thompson’s other son, was the one who shot Billy after being involved in a physical altercation with him.  Tony Thompson Jr. fled the scene before the Deputies arrived; however, PCSO Detectives were able to make contact with Mr. Thompson by phone where he agreed to speak with the Detectives.   Billy Thompson was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.”

“Amanda Thompson was arrested and charged with Fabricating/Tampering with Evidence. Ms. Thompson has a $20,000 bond and a court date of August 26, 2024.”

“Tony Thompson Jr. was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Murder. Mr. Thompson has a bond of $1 Million and a court date of August 26, 2024.” (PCSO Press Release)
