Cumberland County Commission Approves 2024-25 Budget, No Property Tax Increase

There will be no property tax increase for Cumberland County residents after a special called meeting by the Cumberland County Commission on Monday. Commissioners approved the current property tax rate of $1.1350 for the 2024-25 fiscal year which is projected to generate $25.8 million. Sales tax revenues are projected at $22 million to bring the total estimated income for the county general fund to $41.2 million against projected expenditures of $40.5 million leaving a $614,000 surplus. In all, the budget for all departments and funds, including the Board of Education, County General Fund, Debt Service, Highway Fund and Solid Waste, is $185.1 million. County General employees will also receive a 5 percent cost of living adjustment. Additionally, commissioners allocated funds to conduct a compensation study. Mayor Allen Foster said, “I believe this is money well spent as we have grown past the point of doing this internally.”
