TDOT and NCDOT Urge People to Avoid Travel in Western N.C.

Sep 29, 2024 | 1:51 PM

State transportation officials in Tennessee and North Carolina are urging people to avoid unnecessary travel in western North Carolina as over 300 roads, including areas along Interstate 40 and dozens of highways in the foothills and mountains, remain closed due to flooding, downed trees, landslides or catastrophic damage from Helene.

A section of I-40 that connects eastern Tennessee with western North Carolina has washed out.

Officials said Saturday do not travel in or to western North Carolina. All roads should be considered closed.  Avoid all non-essential travel in this area as it may interfere with emergency efforts.
