Thursday night was a battle between UTK and UTM as the Tennessee Lady Vols hosted the UT-Martin Skyhawks. It was the second game of the Kim Caldwell era and it proved to be another dominating performance as the Lady Vols posted a 90-50 victory over the team from Martin, TN. Caldwell’s defense for a second straight game allowed their opponents to score in the 50 mark and forced the Skyhawks to 31 turnovers and had 9 steals.
The offense was just 10 points shy of the century mark with Ruby Whitehorn scoring 18 points. Jewel Spear, Sara Puckett, and Samara Spencer rounded out the top scorers with 13, 11, and 10 respectively. Melbourne Arkansas native Kenley McCarn lead UT-Martin with 13 points.
The Lady Vols next contest will be against another in-state foe in Middle Tennessee State who upset the Lady Vols last year. The Lady Vols will host the Blue Raiders on Tuesday at 5:30 PM.
