Lady Vols Upset #17 Iowa in Women’s Champions Classic

It was a showdown in Brooklyn, New York in the Inaugural Women’s Champions Classic. The Tennessee Lady Vols had were apart of the classic and they had their game against the #17 Iowa Hawkeyes Saturday night. It was a back-and-fourth heavyweight matchup which saw Tennessee come out on top after a late run with under three minuets to play. The Lady Vols shocked the Hawks with a final of 78-68.

Tennessee was led by Talaysia Cooper who scored 23 points in route to Tennessee’s upset win. Ruby Whitehorn followed her with 16 points for UT, with Samara Spencer and Tess Darby having 11 apiece. Iowa was led by Villanova transfer Lucy Olsen who also had 23 points. Addison O’Grady had a double-double for the Hawkeyes with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Tennessee remains unbeaten and improves to 7-0 on the year. The Lady Vols return home for a matchup against Nort Carolina Central on Saturday December 14th with tipoff set for 1:00 PM.
