Tennessee Basketball Weekend Results

It was a very successful weekend for both the Tennessee Vols and Lady Vols Basketball programs.

It started Saturday afternoon as the 19th ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers hosted the North Carolina Central Eagles. Not only did the Lady Vols win and stay undefeated they did it in spectacular fashion. The Lady Vols defeated the Eagles 139-59 while being the first team in College Basketball, NBA, or WNBA history to make 30+ threes in a game. Samars Spencer led the way for UT with a double-double having 33 points and 10 assists. Talaysia Cooper scored 21 points and Tess Darby scored 17 points. #19 Tennessee returns to action Wednesday as they travel to west Tennessee to take on the Memphis Tigers at 7:30 PM.

Saturday night saw the #1 ranked basketball team in the country, the Tennessee Volunteers travel to Champaign, Illinois to take on the Fighting Illini. The game stayed close from wire to wire with the largest led in the game being 8 points. Tennessee and Illinois were tied with 5 seconds left on the clock. Senior Jordan Gainey called game as he went coast-to-coast for a lay up at the buzzer. The Vols survive Champaign defeating Illinois 66-64. Jordan Gainey had the most points for UT with 23 and Chaz Lanier was behind him with 17 points. #1 Tennessee returns to Knoxville Tuesday for a matchup with Western Carolina at 6:00 PM.
