It was the Play for Kay game for the 15th ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers which saw the players and most of the crowd wearing pink as they hosted the Auburn Tigers. Tennessee had an outstanding night shooting from behind the arch knocking down 14 three points 4 above their per game average, which they lead the nation in. The Lady Vols were just shy of the century mark defeating the Auburn 99-61.
Tennessee had five players score in double digits with Jewel Spear having the most with 17. Ruby Whitehorn, who recently hit the 1,000 point mark, was close behind her with 15 points. Zee Spearman was able to score 14 points while Avery Strickland and Tess Darby had 11 and 10 points respectively. Auburn had two great offensive efforts from DeYona Gaston and Yuting Deng putting up 24 and 13 points respectively.
The Lady Vols improve to 18-6 on the year and 5-6 in SEC play. Tennessee is back again on Rocky Top for a Sunday afternoon tip against Ole Miss. You can hear coverage of Sunday’s game on MIX 99.3.
