Eighty-two of Tennessee’s 95 counties reported unemployment rates for January below 5% but that wasn’t the case for Cumberland County, which had a 5.4% jobless rate for the first month of the year.  That’s up 0.5 % from December’s rate of 4.9% and up 0.2 % from the previous year.

Most counties in Tennessee saw an uptick in their unemployment rates over the previous month.  Perry County had Tennessee’s highest unemployment rate at 7.6%.  Williamson County reported the lowest unemployment rate for the month at 2.8%.

Tennessee’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in January was 3.7%, which was the same as December’s revised rate. The national rate was 4%. (Image courtesy Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD).)
